Read Across America Week is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually during the week of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books, and you can too! This week Winslow Township School #6 will be celebrating Read Across America by having different activities throughout the week. The Theme: Focus on STEM, space, and innovation.
The Look: Wear neon colors or dress like a scientist/astronaut.
The Activity: Read a biography of a famous inventor or a science fiction book.
The Theme: Celebrating community, kindness, and diversity.
The Look: Wear tie-dye.
The Activity: "Community Storytellers." Students "interview" a classmate about their favorite book character to find common interests and "tie" their friendship closer.
The Theme: Animals, nature, and the great outdoors.
The Look: Wear animal prints, camo, or a shirt with an animal on it.
The Activity: Focus on non-fiction books about the natural world or animal fables.
The Theme: Bravery, resilience, and personal growth.
The Look: Wear a superhero shirt.
The Activity: Discuss "book heroes" and the character traits that make them special.
The Theme: Empathy, friendship, and inclusivity.
The Look: Team Kindness! Wear your favorite sports jersey or school spirit gear to show we’re all on the same team.
The Activity: Review the Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying Video. Complete the “One Kind Word” heart poster.
