Back to School Letter from our Superintendent
Dear Parents/Guardians:As we approach the opening day of a new school year, I am pleased to report that the district, the Winslow Township Education Association, and the Winslow Township Administrators Association, have negotiated Agreements for the next two years (2023-24 and 2024-25). More importantly, with this significant matter behind us, we can now focus all of our attention on teaching and learning.
When your children return to school on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, they will see that we have updated technology throughout the district, that includes all computer labs, teacher workstations, smart panels in classrooms, and newly installed projectors in each school’s cafeteria. Our preschool classrooms have new furniture and new carpeting has been installed where needed. We will also be using a new Benchmark Assessment Program (I-Ready) in grades K-6 this year to assist us in monitoring and improving student performance.
We have reviewed the district’s Dress Code Policy and students will be permitted to wear hoodies this year, but the hoods cannot be worn in school. Additional information on the district’s dress code will be discussed with parents on Back-to-School Nights.
I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Mr. William Shropshire as our new Building Principal at the Middle School; Mr. Matthew Minder as the new Assistant Principal at the High School; and, Mrs. Alexandra Gonzalez as the new Assistant Principal at Schools No. 1 and No. 3. There will also be 50 new teachers joining the Winslow Township School District family.
In an effort to improve our delivery of services to the children of this community, we must place a greater emphasis on student achievement. We are, again, asking parents for support by making sure that students come to school prepared to learn, and that we hold them accountable for their behavior and the decisions they make.
This school year gives us another opportunity to reach higher heights and to show our children that we value education by working together and giving them every opportunity to succeed. I encourage you to stay engaged in your child’s education and become more active in school activities.
Our school board has made a commitment to provide our students with the best educational experience possible. The teachers and administrators will support that goal by making every effort to improve student achievement, creating a safe and supportive learning environment for all students, and improving communication with our parents and community. As we continue to build a strong partnership with all stakeholders, our mutual objective is to build a strong educational school system for the children of Winslow Township. I look forward to seeing you in our schools this year and we thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
H. Major Poteat, Ed.D., Superintendent
